While Tall Tales and True achieved the most commercial success among these artists, a key aspect of this 'Band of the Week' initiative was to provide bands of seeming merit with an opportunity for national exposure that would have been otherwise highly unlikely. Given that context, the longer term success rate of this cohort is not surprising; the poor extent to which local Australian bands gained traction during this time was the project's whole justification. As further consolation for this, ABC Television's long standing music video show 'Rage' also played a lower-budget ABC-produced video for each of the songs listed above from A1 to B5, as the weeks progressed. On the last week, these videos featured together on the same program. These videos were also published together on VHS by ABC Video. In 1987, FM radio station JJJ was not broadcast nationally as it is now; and so the televised version introduced many Australian youth to these bands for the first time. As a 16 year old boy at the time of publication, who incessantly played their home-made VHS recording of the last-week TV broadcast, this track-list is burned into my synapses. Other record collectors who have no cause or reason for such nostalgia may none-the-less find some similarity in style between this eclectic collection of 80's Australian obscure pop and the NZ Flying Nun Records classic compilation 'In Love With These Times'. Or not, it's hard to tell how others will view unusual artifacts that you have grown to cherish.
