Discussion about Link - The Augur
Cala
I can't believe I'm the first post for this amazing early 90's gem of a record. I first came across 'The Augur' on the 'In Order to Dance 5' R&S compilation. This cut was the final track, closing the 3rd CD and you hear it and think, "wow...that's emotive". A beautiful Detroit style chord section cut into with some amazing unique drums. It was like Black Dog circa 'Bytes' was jamming with John Beltran to my ears. I finally tracked down a second hand copy of the Symbiotic 12" in 1995-96 and only then did the mystery of Link unfold. On the original Symbiotic release there is a little Universal Language symbol in the artwork. Global Communications ! It made sense now. But what was more of a revelation for me was the 2 untitled extra cuts. Especially the 3min swirling, beatless ambient cut which for me is one of the best pieces of music I own to this day. Simple and effective. '93 really was the vintage year for UK techno and UK artists started to break through and make wonderful music. I paid £20 for this second hand way back and have never regretted it to this day. Utterly essential purchase
